Two childhood friends with a love of sustainability, that’s where this adventure began. Since then, The Sustainable Boys have become a regular sustainability partner. Where they were first known for their “solar panels with a smile,” they now focus on “sustainable with a smile. The young, driven entrepreneurs Wayne Siebenga and Boy Weijgertse have big sustainable ambitions. Because climate neutral living is the future, they say with conviction. And they want to make their contribution to that.
Everything under one roof
From solar panels, vehicle charging stations and energy storage to hybrid air conditioners, insulation and roof renovation. The Sustainable Boys can do it all. In doing so, they always strive for top quality and maximum safety. Above all, they excel in service. Boy: “We take care of the entire solar panel project from A-Z. Whether that involves arranging the VAT refund, installing the solar panels themselves or their online monitoring.”
“Never before have solar panels been as financially attractive as they are today. But that is only the beginning. People, the environment and society have a lot to look forward to. Home sustainability, smart home living, will play a major role in our lives. Especially when the energy-saving scheme is phased out. We see it as our duty to make people aware of this and to keep them continuously informed,” says Wayne.

The secret
Wayne deals with innovations, marketing and sales. Boy is the hands-on guy and manages the technical teams. Together they are responsible for about 25 boys and ladies. To grow, new recruits are constantly needed. With blogs, vlogs and ‘looks behind the scenes’ they trigger the new generation to show that working with hands can still be fun. So far, they manage to get people excited and keep the current team on board. Their secret? Working hard, but also taking time to have fun, enjoy and laugh with each other. Wayne: “We create a warm, family atmosphere and find it important that colleagues feel at home and appreciated. In addition to fair remuneration for their work, we organize Friday afternoon drinks and fun staff outings.”
The same way they treat their customers. “In everything we do we are friendly, professional, personal and sincere. We don’t care about mega-projects with hefty margins. We become much happier when we can help people reduce their energy bills. That’s when we really make a difference!” said Boy.
Dare to think big
The Sustainable Boys themselves are already well on their way. The company site in Sittard is full of solar panels, the heating and cooling of the premises is done with hybrid air conditioners and all the sustainability consultants drive electric. Over the past three years, the talented company has gained momentum. Wayne: “We are thinking big and making ambitious plans for the future. It would be great if we become the healthiest, most modern and innovative sustainability company in the South.”
“Millions of homes in our country need to be made more sustainable and this is a huge job. There is a lot to do, we have no time to waste. We want to show how wonderful it is to be able to contribute to concrete solutions to the global climate problem,” Boy explained.
Positive reactions
That these guys are not just concerned with making money is evidenced by the positive experiences shared by customers. Boy: “We are proud of all the beautiful projects. We get very nice reactions from all sides. Enthusiastic, satisfied customers are and remain the most important thing.” Wayne: “We like to stay involved, even after completion. So we send out a monthly newsletter that includes tips, developments, innovations and sustainable news. The approach is not at all commercial. But people need to know that they can come to De Duurzame Jongens if they want to take several sustainability measures. That is what we are going to focus entirely on in the coming period.”
