In recent days, the hacking of solar panels has been in the news a lot. According to the National Digital Infrastructure Inspectorate (RDI), the software contained in inverters is vulnerable and therefore relatively easy to hack. This article concerns an explanation and reassurance on the “potential” hacking of solar panel systems.
Inverter with CE marking
The RDI recommends an inverter with a CE mark. Other inverters do not meet the requirements. At The Sustainable Boys, we only use inverters that have a CE mark. This is a declaration of conformity in the Netherlands; a certification for utility connected photovoltaic inverters.
The Sustainable Boys’ systems below are affiliated with this:
- Solar Edge
- GoodWe
- Enphase
- SMA
Use strong password
Furthermore, it is good to be alert for malfunctions and report them to us in a timely manner. You can reduce the chance of a hack by providing the monitoring applications with a strong password. Performing regular updates is also important.
Still doubting whether your inverters are susceptible to hacking? For extreme security, one option is to remove all monitoring from the system. If you wish to do this, please contact The Sustainable Boys.
